An analysis of rural-urban migration in Thailand is presented, with particular reference to environmental and noneconomic factors such as physical accessibility, levels of external contact, and household density. Data are from a longitudinal study and a community-level survey conducted by the Institute of Population Studies at Chulalongkorn University in 1969 and 1972, together with additional data collected in 1982. The need to improve physical and social conditions in rural areas to decrease the motivation to migrate is noted.
