Endotoxin from E. coli O111:B4 strongly inhibited gastric contractions in goats, and this inhibition was not affected by adrenergic blocking agents, adrenalectomy or splanchectomy. Alpha-methyldopa (Aldomet), an inhibitor of catecholamine synthesis, had an antipyretic action in goats but not in rabbits.
