Clinical complications of atherosclerosis are the main cause of mortality in the most advanced countries. Epidemiological data supported by extensive perspective investigations suggest the role of hyperinsulinaemia as an independent risk factor in the development of atherosclerosis. The authors summarize the trends in research of insulin resistance, its possible diagnostic and treatment.
