In a prospective study in Mexico of 30 cases of intraocular cysticercosis it was found that: there was a higher incidence in the first 2 decades of life compared with neurocysticercosis, blindness occurred in 81% of patients despite surgery, and living cysticerci were found, even in cases with inflammation, indicating that the parasite does not have to die to produce inflammation as previously reported.
