The size of kidneys and 2nd lumbar vertebrae of 27 young adult male dogs of various sizes and unknown breeding were calculated from radiographs and direct measurement at P.M. Direct measurement of kidney dimensions and weight at P.M. indicated variations that were not due to differences in the sizes of the dogs. Numerous factors were found to cause variations in the ratios of kidney length to vertebra length determined from radiographs which do not allow narrow numerical limits to be placed on this ratio for the normal dog, but the values given in this study do serve as a guide.
