Morphometric variability of G. chrysocephalus from 3 single hosts (3 idiohostal populations, P1-P3) and from a group of the host species (synhostal population, P0) was analysed and compared, using populations of 30 male and 30 female lice from pheasants (Phasianus colchicus) in Lower Silesia, Poland. The variability of the 4 characters studied was different for males and females. Arithmetic means for abdominal width, head length and total body length in males of P2 and P3 were significantly different to those of P0. In females, such differences were recorded only for head width of P1, which differed significantly from P0, P2 and P3. The morphometric variability was generally low (1.8-6.2%) and was similar in both sexes and for the 4 populations.
