Use of anabolic hormones in premature children

For 3 weeks methylandrostendiol or methandrostenolone 0.1 mg/kg bodyweight was given to 34 premature infants, birthweights of 14 of whom were below 1500 g and of 20 between 1500 and 2000 g; 13 and 23 premature infants not treated with anabolic hormones were of similar birthweights. All children had breast milk supplemented with protein milk and then kefir, with protein about 2.8 g/kg; ascorbic acid, thiamin and riboflavin were given in powder form.
