Injectable norethisterone enanthate contraception: absence of an effect on oral glucose tolerance

8 patients who were part of a clinical trial of norethisterone enanthate (NET-EN) were studied. After fasting overnight, a blood sample and standard 50 g oral glucose tolerance test was peformed. Each patient was administered the 1st of 4 injections of NET-EN. The other 3 injections followed in the 24 weeks of treatment. The oral glucose tolerance test was repeated during week 24 of contraception. This study demonstrated that multiple injections of NET-EN given over a 24 week period in a modified dose schedule produce no significant alteration of oral glucose tolerance.
