A young woman presented with typical features of raised intracranial pressure including florid bilateral papilloedema, 8 wk after an i.m. injection of depo-provera (depot medroxyprogesterone) for contraception. Detailed neurological examination revealed no other abnormality and contrast neuroradiological investigations were negative. The papilloedema resolved gradually within 4 wk. The association of benign intracranial hypertension with the use of long acting injectable progestogen contraceptives has not previously been reported.
