Family planning accessibility and practices; a local survey of family physicians

Local physicians were surveyed to study their attitudes to the provision of birth control services. Doctors felt that they provided a good service to clients and referred to gynecologists in situations that they could not handle themselves. Most clients were adults. 64% of physicians would consider providing services to minors without parental consent. Fewer than half were aware of local family planning clinics and only a small number ever referred to them. By becoming more aware of family planning clinics, local physicians might better provide for the family planning needs of the total community. Further research is needed to better define physicians perceptions and practices and adolescents' attitudes.
