The court held that under the Dutch system of law a marriage between 2 persons of the same sex is not possible. It also held that this legal state of affairs does not constitute a violation of the right to respect for private life under Article 8 of the European Human Rights Convention, the right to marry under Article 12, the the right to be free from discrimination under Article 14, or any similar provisions of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
