If more monoclonal antibodies that are specific to head and neck cancer became available, they might prove an important experimental and clinical advance. Thus they might play an important role in exact biological tumor staging and in monitoring different treatment modalities. Monoclonal antibodies may be applied in combination with immunotoxins, chemotherapeutic agents or radioactive substances. Future research with specific monoclonal antibodies may provide new insights into malignant transformation and new strategies for the treatment of head and neck cancer.
