On 19 November 1984, the Cabinet of New Zealand formally approved the Ministry of Women's Affairs. The functions of the Ministry are the following: 1) to advise the Minister of Women's Affairs on the implications of the Government's policies, public sector plans, and expenditure programs in terms of their differential impact on women; 2) to monitor and initiate legislation and regulations in order to promote equality of opportunity for women; 3) to advise the Minister of Women's Affairs of suitable nominees for the appointment of women to statutory bodies and other quasi-governmental bodies; and 4) to advise the Minister of Women's Affairs on any matter relevant to the implementation of the Government's manifest where this has implications for, or explicitly refers to, women.
