Results are presented of studies on 36 patients with bronchial carcinoma treated with chemicals, Co radiotherapy, antibiotics and corticosteroids, and on 34 patients with chronic bronchitis treated with antibiotics and cortisone. Candida albicans was isolated frequently from the pharynx, rarely from the bronchi. Its pathogenicity was proved only once. Even in chronic bronchitis patients receiving antibiotics for long periods with or without corticosteroids the fungus was rarely found in the bronchi and never produced symptoms. A pathogenic C. str. was found in the bronchi of 11% of the cancer patients. Here too no infection was apparently produced.
