The relationship between the nutrient and mineral supply of certain pastures, their physical and chemical soil characteristics and their botanical composition was studied in the area of Bayreuth, West Germany. Statistics on the pastures/water balance and mineral and nutrient levels were provided, including P, Ca, Mg, K, Na, Cu, Zn, Pb, Cd, Mn, Fe, and Ni. The plant life of the pastures could be divided into 4 communities: Cynosurion, Arrhenatherion, Festuca rubra-Luzula campestris and intensive pasture. Calculations were made of the raw protein and dry mass production levels of the different pasture communities.
