Comparative immunomorphological data were presented on the distribution of keratin-expressing cells in the human thymus during the pre- and postnatal development periods. The study was conducted using monoclonal antibodies to individual keratins of various histological specificity. Based on a set of the monoclonal antibodies to individual keratin proteins used in the experiment, the kerain phenotype of most of the cells of the thymic epithelial reticulum is close to the keratin phenotype of nondifferentiated basal cells of embryonic epidermis before the stratification and formation of its appendages begin.
