The Zimbabwe Essential Drugs Action Programme has developed an innovative approach to training that produces appropriate training materials and disseminates them to health workers at all levels. The aim is that, by the end of 1989, all health workers will have been trained to use drugs rationally. The programme depends on the active participation of rural health staff in the production of training materials, combined with desk-top publishing technology. The modules thus produced have been used at provincial and district workshops, and the approach may be applicable to areas other than essential drugs.
