"Changing social values brought about modifications in certain concepts, terminology and questions in the 1981 and 1986 Censuses of Canada. This text examines how the term head of household was replaced by another term for household reference person,...and the consequences for certain data series. On the whole, these changes did not cause any appreciable break in, but rather improved, relevant statistical series. Some unanticipated results of these changes pose a new challenge for Canada's census takers in the 1990's." (SUMMARY IN ENG AND SPA)
