Staphylococcal osteomyelitis of the thoracic 5-7 region of fowls and turkeys was reproduced experimentally in chickens inoculated i/v with a coagulase-negative, non-hemolytic field isolate of Staph. albus. Some birds became paraplegic within 4 weeks. Histological studies showed abnormalities, which appeared as clefts in the growth cartilages of the thoracic vertebral bodies.
