In 1968-70 palatability studies were carried out with horses on 29 species of grasses, legumes and herbs and 2 seed mixtures, using a total grazing time of 260 h. The most palatable was a clover-rich dryland mixture (16% perennial ryegrass Agresso Tetraploid, 40% meadow fescue S125, 20% cocksfoot S143, 16% timothy S48, 6% white clover New Zealand and 2% wild white clover Kent).
