It is common to use suction drains to prevent postoperative haematoma formation following surgery. We report 2 patients who experienced severe pain due to suction drains placed in the medullary cavity of the femur following the removal of intramedullary nails. Disconnecting the vacuum from the drains produced immediate relief of the pain in both cases.
