Exopolysaccharide (EPS) purified from the culture medium of P. solanacearum was composed of equal proportions of D-glucose and D-galactose with a trace amount of hexosamine, indicating that it is a neutral sugar-dominated heteropolysaccharide. Methylation analysis was used to determine the nature of the linkages among the constituent sugars, and a possible structure for the EPS is proposed.
