Gyrodactylus somnaensis sp. nov. is described from the fins of Phoxinus phoxinus (type host) and from the skin of Oncorhynchus keta, both caught in the River Somna, in the basin of the River Amur, Russia. The mean total length of the parasite's massive anchors was 0.103 mm, with the shaft, point and root mean lengths 0.069, 0.043 and 0.055 mm, respectively. Mean length of the shield was 0.047 and the dorsal bar's mean dimensions were 0.0055 x 0.007 mm. The total length of the marginal hooks was 0.032 mm and the length of the hook proper was 0.009 mm. The type and size of the cirrus and pharynx could not be determined. The shape of the anchors of the new species slightly resembles that of G. decorus, but the shape and size of the ventral bar and shield and hook proper of the marginal hooks are distinctly different.
