This paper briefly presents a systematic list of the Heteraxinidae and other allied small monogenean families of the suborder Microcotylinea with the indication of specific composition of all taxa and diagnoses of some taxa; new families Megamicrocotylidae, Paramonoxinidae and Monaxinoididae are proposed. Characteristics of Megamicrocotylidae fam. nov. include: ribbon-like bodies; well-defined asymmetric long haptor; closed clamps; absence of anchors; aseptate buccal suckers; genital atrium and copulatory organ armed; posteriorly placed large vagina. It is represented by species of the genus Megamicrocotyle. Monaxinoididae fam. nov. is most closely related to the Heteromicrocotylidae in the presence of an atrial sucker and accessory copulatory apparatus but differs in the presence of a unilateral haptor with simple uniform clamps, aseptate buccal suckers and a single 'glandulosus' hook in the accessory copulatory apparatus. The type genus is Monaxinoides. Paramonaxinidae fam. nov. is closest to Rhinecotylidae but is less evolved (clamps simple, absence of sucker on the haptor). It is represented by members of the genera Paramonaxine and Incisaxine.
