Urinary incontinence due to urovagina

A one-year-old Collie bitch which had been surgically treated for a fistulation close to the vulva when 4 months old was presented with a history of involuntary urine loss for several months. The urine loss occurred only when the dog assumed lateral recumbency. Clinical examination revealed a hyoplastic, deformed vulva with a constricted lumen. Contrast radiography of the vagina revealed urovagina due to a deformity of the vestibulovaginal opening. Following surgery to remove the obstruction a slight protrusion of vaginal mucosa and some vulvar deformation remained but the incontinence resolved completely.
