This paper examines the factors that are associated with contraceptive prevalence in different areas of Indonesia. It uses a multivariate technique to relate contraceptive prevalence rates (CPR) to socioeconomic variables and service provision in municipalities and regencies. The length of time that a programme has been in existence is the most important determinant of the CPR, although areas with longstanding programmes are economically strongest and have a well-developed social structure.
