The effectiveness of combination chemotherapy with vincristine, prospidin, bleomycin, cyclophosphamide and prednisolone (VPBCP regimen) was studied in 71 patients with morphologically verified locally advanced and inoperable epidermoid lung cancer. A more than 50% regression of tumor was registered in 32.4% with 4.2% showing complete response. Tumor shrank by 25-50% in 15.5% but failed to respond in 29.6%. Toxicity proved low. A direct correlation--the more apparent regression, the longer remission and, correspondingly, longer survival--was established between prognosis and response.
