The frequency of occurrence and degree of manifestation of pulmonary hypertension were studied in 1101 patients with pulmonary diseases. Measurements of pulmonary artery systolic pressure were recorded and used as the main criterion of the study. It was found that pulmonary hypertension rarely occurs in patients with pulmonary disease and its levels do not exceed 40-45 mm Hg. It is extremely doubtful that pulmonary hypertension plays a role in the development of right ventricular decompensation. In patients with chronic nonspecific pulmonary diseases displaying high levels of pulmonary artery systolic pressure, the differential diagnosis of primary pulmonary hypertension, thromboembolism of the pulmonary artery, and cardiac diseases was recommended.
