Explanations are provided for the geographical patterns of relative farm-population densities in the parkland zone of the Canadian prairies during 1941-76. Density patterns and rates of population loss are analyzed by township. The best explanatory factor is cultural attitudes associated with ethnic groups. Type and intensity of agriculture, availability of off-farm work, and soil productivity are contributing influences.
