The indication of finger- and transmetacarpal amputation cannot be standardized. Some diagrams can give orientation. The procedure to be used has to be determined from case to case dependent on age, profession, intelligence and readiness to postoperative cooperation. Operations with transmetacarpal amputation have not satisfactory results in function of the hand.
