The dependence of spring triticale yield on the sum and distribution of rainfall in different development stages and throughout the growing season on wheat and ry soils in the southern part of Poland was determined on the basis of the results of 342 annual experiments from 12 experimental stations. Soil quality influenced the yield significantly. The highest yield of ca. 6.0 t/ha on wheat complexes occurred under the following conditions: rainfall of 180-250 mm, 30-45 days with rainfall of <=5 mm 30-45, and 40-50 days with rainfall. On rye complexes, increasing rainfall increased the yield systematically. The number of days with rainfall of <=5 mm and total number of days with rainfall did not affect the yield significantly, though a positive tendency with increasing number of days could be noted.
