Some demographic and social characteristics of farm families

Survey results are employed to compare farm families with non-agricultural families in France. It is noted that: (1) more and more farmers' daughters have spouses who are not farmers, (2) divorce rate is very low among farmers, (3) there are fewer widows in farming than in any other professional group, (4) farm families have more children than other professional groups, and (5) farmers' children have relatively fewer years of schooling, take up employment at an early age but live longer with their parents before setting up separate homes.
