Invited commentary: phenylpropanolamine and the medical literature: a thorough reading is required

This commentary was invited by the Editor to provide another perspective on issues related to phenylpropanolamine as a weight loss aid which were raised in the paper by Lake, Rosenberg and Quirk in this issue of the International Journal of Obesity. Several points are disputed and it is concluded that phenylpropanolamine does not have major side effects. It is recommended that consumers should read the package labels before taking the medication.
