A mark, release and recapture experiment at Jae-Ju University, Suguipo, South Korea, in 1973 showed that overwintering adults of Stomoxys calcitrans (L.) began to disperse in the field about the middle of April. Population density was high from the end of May until September, with a temporary decrease during summer, mainly because of high rainfall and a typhoon. The dispersal times of overwintering adults were closely related to changing temperature, adult emergence taking place at an average minimum temperature of 11 deg C and a soil surface temperature of 15 deg C.
