The work analyses the results of surgical treatment of intracranial meningiomas in 250 patients of elderly and old age during a 20-year period (1967-86). The number of surgical interventions in patients with this disease has grown. The use of microsurgical methods, and the advancements in anesthesiology and resuscitation made it possible to raise the radical character of the operation and reduce postoperative mortality. Postoperative hemorrhage with the formation of intracranial hematomas, edematous-hemorrhagic softening in the zone of the operative intervention, and exacerbation of concomitant diseases were the main causes of death in the postoperative period.
