This article offers a brief overview of the current practice of and trends in American C-L psychiatry in its clinical, teaching, and research aspects. In the last 15 years this area of psychiatry has shown unprecedented growth (2). Its continuing development should help to further advance the goal of the integration of mental and general medical health care (8).
