After a fall from a fifth floor window, a one-year-old cat was able to walk, but refused feed, had blood-stained urine and showed evidence of abdominal pain. Blood tests and radiography were inconclusive and abdominal laparotomy revealed ascites and fat necrosis. The animal was killed and postmortem examination showed lesions confined to the peripancreatic tissue and severe liponecrosis, indicative of leakage of pancreatic enzymes into the body cavity. The case is of interest as changes in the pancreas itself were minimal and laparotomy was required to establish a diagnosis.
