Public concern and our professional organizations' recognition of the need to deal with physician sexual misconduct may result in increasing numbers of pediatricians who will be falsely accused of sexual touching. These unfortunate colleagues deserve our compassionate understanding. Although this issue will undoubtedly generate controversy, it is hoped that attention has been drawn to a problem that probably deserves as much consideration as professional sexual misconduct has received. In our zeal to help and protect abused patients, the potential for the victimization of innocent pediatricians must be appreciated and minimized.
