Traditionally of only minor importance, Argentina's tourism industry is now developing strongly. Over the last decade international arrivals have increased by 169%, albeit from a small base, well above the 68% growth worldwide. Tourism currently represents around 4% of GDP, is the country's largest single export earner and supports some 11% of total employment. Visitors from overseas have been increasing faster than arrivals from neighbouring countries, although the latter produce the bulk of arrivals. As Argentina moves towards a more open and dynamic economy, it is possible that tourism from abroad will be one of the sectors most likely to benefit.
