A survey was undertaken of 40 anganwadi (grassroots level) workers and supervisors undergoing training in the Integrated Child Development Scheme at training centres operated at the Gujarat State Crime Prevention Trust, Ahmedabad. The Rorschach test was individually administered and personality profiles were established. Five important variables such as intelligence, creativity, reality sense, conformity with social norms, and problems were analysed. It was found that the respondents generally got rated as average and below average on all the variables. Further analysis of the data in terms of age, education, marital status and socioeconomic level did not yield major changes in the pattern of results. Based on these findings, the analysis suggests the incorporation of an 'experiential self-awareness' programme in the training curricula of grassroot level women functionaries at all levels and more so for those engaged in development-related tasks.
