The mental incapacity of patients with Alzheimer's disease may be such that they need legal protection. The consequences and mode of implementation of placing the patient under protection of the Court, under simple or extended guardianship and under tutelage are described. These measures, and others left to individual initiatives, are costly. The various possible financial contributions provided by the Health Insurance or Social Assistance are reviewed. Finally, the patient may require hospitalization, either temporarily, to relieve his family, or for a long time. The financial consequences of prolonged hospitalization, which in the end is very expensive, ought to be well known.
