Using a delipidized and chemically defined antigen and various serological tests, the authors studied the appearance and development of antibodies against Angiostrongylus cantonensis in rats. Immunofluorescence and immunodiffusion proved the most satisfactory, the former giving 100% positive reactions and demonstrating antibodies from the 4th day after infection and the latter giving positive reactions with 2 lines of precipitation from the 6th day. Double diffusion (Oudin or Ouchterlony) tests were also useful. The maximum antibody titre was reached on the 20th day and high titres persisted in chronic infections (11 months). Inexplicably, complement fixation tests gave no result of any value.
