Of 218 pregnant women attending an antenatal clinic in Niamey, Niger, who were tested by the ELISA for the presence of anti-Toxoplasma antibodies, 33 (15.1%) were seropositive. Prevalence ranged from 8.3% in women aged <20 years to 20.5% in those aged >30 years. There were no significant differences among patients related to ethnic origin or to eating and cooking habits, but the prevalence was significantly higher among those patients who owned a cat (39.1% vs 12.7%).
