The correspondents discuss the apparently high rate of cervical cancer in Pacific island Polynesians living in New Zealand. The cumulative incidence (1978-82) was 4.6% in Pacific island women, 2.3% in Maori women and 0.9% in non-Maoris. They caution that the high incidence may be an artefact. However, even if this is true, the incidence is high enough to suggest that Pacific islanders should be seen as a special group.T. Rathwell.
