The authors report on first observations on the vascularization of the areae mesocolicae which resulted from radioanantomical studies made in collaboration with the Institute of General Clinical Surgery of the University of Siena. Three areae can be distinguished: colocolica (Treiz), sigmoidea or intersigmoidea, and intercolica. The investigations were carried out using selective preoperative angiography and the injection of anatomical preparations.
