Bangladesh's Contraceptive Prevalence Survey in 1981 indicated that only 1.6% of eligible couples used condoms, but sales and distribution figures from Bangladesh's Social Marketing Project indicated that 5% of eligible couples used condoms. Most of the discrepancy is accounted for by underreporting. Family Health International found that in rural areas 44% of wives and 12% of husbands underreported condom use, and in urban areas 11% of husbands and 15% of wives underreported condom use.
