There is little systemic knowledge about health and use of health care facilities among Norwegian prostitutes. This article presents results from a survey based on interviews of 20 prostitutes in Oslo, and the results of their HIV antibody testing. The prostitutes showed high somatic and mental morbidity. In spite of their frequent contact with the health care system, there was little continuity, and there were signs of undertreatment of certain illnesses. In order to provide adequate care for indigent prostitute women, helath care workers need to be aware of these women as consumers of health care.
