Alopecia has been observed in patients receiving propranolol (Inderal). Apart from serial photographic records, the laboratory documentation of hair loss is at present difficult. Estimations of new hair shaft percentages with or without dysplastic defects in the telogen hair bulbs are subject to wide observer variation. Few patients will accept drug re-challenge, hence a scientifically proven causal relationship is rarely attainable.
