Severe foetal bradycardia was demonstrated as antenatal examination in the 29th week of pregnancy. Foetal echocardiography with M-mode registration revealed the diagnosis of foetal atrio-ventricular block. The pregnancy was followed with ultrasonic scanning every fortnight in view of possible development of cardiac failure. A living female infant was delivered by Caesarean section in the 38th week. The infant had no signs of asphyxia but had complete atrio-ventricular block. On account of the increased frequency of atrio-ventricular block in foetuses of mothers with connective tissue disease, routine foetal echocardiography is recommended in these patients.
