Patients with hypertension and arteriopathies: plethysmographic differences

The value of arterial and venous measurements was evaluated in 27 patients with essential hypertension, in 25 and 38 patients with mild and severe peripheral arterial disease respectively and in 15 healthy volunteers. Hypertensive patients have peripheral arterial resistance and 2-second outflow higher than arteriopathic and normal patients while venous distensibility was lower. The authors conclude that plethysmographic investigation is another simple non-invasive technique useful for separate hypertensive from arteriopathic patients and these from healthy subjects espceially in the first period of disease.
